Digital Product Designer

Job description

London | 20-30 People

We are Beryl; leaders in creating innovative products for urban cycling. Our flagship product, the Laserlight, is a front bike light with a laser projecting a bike symbol onto the road ahead of the rider. It enables cyclists to be seen in the notorious ‘blind spot’ and keeps you safe on the road. We’ve integrated our lights into all of the Santander Cycles in London, Next Bike in Glasgow, and we’re piloting them in New York’s Citi Bikes and Montreal’s Bixi. All of whom recognise Beryl as the key to providing safe and smart urban cycling solutions.

We’re on the hunt for a product designer to join the bike share team within Beryl. This is an exciting (and seriously ambitious!) project.

Working with some of the largest urban transportation organisations in the world, we are combining our expertise in creating innovative products with our vision to change the way people move around cities. We need people to help us design mobile and web products that will be used by cyclists, transport providers and fleet operators.

Parallel to our urban cycling products, we are looking at mobility within cities and designing a hi-tech bike share service. This is an exciting opportunity for a product designer to get involved in the early stages of a range of digital products. There is a strong offline element to the service we deliver so it is essential to create experiences that seamlessly move between the physical and digital.

  • Our digital products serve people who will be riding our bikes, but also people who will help us operate our service, and people who want to use the data our bikes generate to improve cities. Deeply understanding all our audiences and the process behind our service will be of paramount importance.

  • You’ll conduct extensive user research, extract insights & derive design solutions.

  • Validate your ideas through lo/mid-fidelity prototypes.

  • Create effective and seamless user experiences, using the correct UI and interaction patterns.

  • Apply your passion for craft and design to create elegant solutions across mobile and web products.

  • Build strong relationships with users and other stakeholders, and advocate for them within the wider team.

  • You’ll do so while collaborating with a mix of designers, software and hardware engineers, product and business people.

We know realising our ambition can only be done by uniting smart thinking, brave design, innovative tech and nimble build. Our team brings all this together, resulting in a hugely exciting work environment.
