Lead Embedded Systems Engineer

We’re on the hunt for a talented Lead Embedded Engineer to work on an exciting (and seriously ambitious!)new urban mobility project led by the founders of Beryl. Working with some of the largest urban transportation organisations in the world, we are combining our expertise in creating innovative hardware with our vision to change the way people move around cities. We’re building a new team to lead the embedded developers that will be used by cyclists, transport providers, and fleet operators. This is an embedded engineer role involves project planning, client management, software architecture and firmware, development.


  • Support the product development team with the creation of new products and prototypes
  • System architecture and development of new features for embedded systems
  • Hardware architecture and design of new concepts of mass-producible products
  • Firmware development for new and existing embedded systems
  • Carry out research/technical investigations
  • Maintain project schedules and communication within the development team
  • Report and present to senior management on project status and schedules
  • Provide test fixture support for manufacturing, QA, and contract manufacturers.
  • Troubleshoot product failures on PCBs, power supplies, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Participate in design reviews, API development, and documentation
  • Leading and mentoring other developers to maintain architectural vision and software quality


Skills and experience Required

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in embedded software design, development and debugging in C/C++
  • Comfortable taking initiative and working across teams
  • Experience in designing products for wireless networks (GSM, UMTS, LTE), GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth wireless systems
  • Strong analog, digital, and high-speed circuit design
  • Experience creating detailed hardware test plans and driving products through verification and early manufacturing runs
  • Experience with processor architecture, digital circuit design and various communications protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, USB, MIPI, I2S, etc.
  • Experience leading and driving design development from schematic capture, PCB layout through assembly
  • Experience managing vendors locally and abroad; driving fast development cycles
  • Strong leadership capabilities, having the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse set of customers or partners, across multiple disciplines.
  • Experience designing hardware systems/products that have been deployed to customers at scale, from developing roadmap through design to mass-production support


  • Experience in RTOS embedded software design, development and debugging in C/C++
  • Experience as a technical lead


  • Practical experience of taking products from prototype into mass production
  • Experience of Uk & Far East Manufacture and supply chain
